City may get help from Peachtree City at Rockaway Road intersection By JOHN
THOMPSON Senoia may soon be getting Peachtree City's help in its fight to get a traffic signal at the intersection of Rockaway Road and Ga. Highway 74. In the past few months, one of the biggest challenges facing many Senoia commuters is the busy intersection located within the city limits of Peachtree City. Each morning, hundreds try to turn left on Hwy. 74 to reach their jobs in Peachtree City or head to Atlanta via Interstate 85. Without a traffic light at the busy intersection, commuters can often wait several minutes for a shot at getting on the state highway. During last week's Senoia City Council meeting, Mayor Dianne Cleveland said she had received a letter from Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown offering his support for the project. In his letter, Brown thanked Cleveland for bringing the matter to his attention "I will make sure that our city engineer is aware of the situation. Perhaps we can have both our police chiefs, city managers and city engineers meet to discuss possible solutions," Brown wrote. At an earlier meeting, Councilman Bill Wood said there have been 40 accidents and 15 injuries at the intersection from 1998 to 2001. In addition to Brown, Wood said he would also ask the city's legislators to get involved in talks with DOT. The road is not slated to be widened until 2009, but Cleveland said the city cannot wait that long for relief.
