The 14th annual Fayette Portraits has been unveiled by the 2001-2002 class from Fayette County High School.

Under the tutelage of teacher Becky Lewis, each of the classes for the past 14 years has published a historical account of people and places in Fayette County.

Twenty-three county citizens were honored for their lives and contributions to Fayette County, in addition to an article on The Joseph Sams School.

Those selected ranged from native Fayette Countians with names like Williams, Ballard, Nipper, Burch, Chandler, Starr, English, Turner, Kelley, Lynch, McEachern, Massengale, Scarborough and Vessel, to those who have lived in the county for many years, such as Sam Champion, Kenny Melear and Helen Sams.

Each member of the class chose someone to write about and told the story of their lives in the magazine. The articles included pictures of the people when they were young, perhaps the house they were born in, pictures of their siblings or children.

At its annual tea, the classmates told something about each person they wrote about and then presented that individual with a copy of the magazine.

The cover of this year's publication was done by class member Adam Lester. and depicts his grandfather's house on East Stonewall Avenue. It was built in 1902 by his great-grandfather, John Addison Lester Sr.

The issue was dedicated to three class members' siblings of who have died: Jake Farley, Sean Caldwell, and Joe Sams.
