Christians from the Fayette, Coweta and South Fulton areas will join Christians all over the world this weekend as they celebrate one of the holiest events in the Christian Church Easter. Activities begin with Maundy Thursday dinners and services, continue through the solemn Tenebrae services of Good Friday, and culminate with joyous celebrations on Easter Sunday morning.

The First Christian Church in Tyrone has an unusual event planned for Maundy Thursday in that actors portraying Christ and his disciples will distribute the Communion meal to those attending. The special service begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tenebrae services, or "Service of the Shadows," dramatically commemorate the death of Christ on Good Friday and churchgoers leave the church in somber silence. Most Lutheran, Episcopal and Catholic churches offer this evening service.

Many area choirs have several special performances this weekend. "Bow the Knee," a musical drama, will be performed by the Fayetteville First Baptist Church choir and praise orchestra both Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.

The North Fayette United Methodist church choir will present the musical, "He's Alive," at 9:45 a.m. Sunday in the activities building.

Faure's "Requiem" is planned for Friday evening at the Fayetteville First United Methodist church.

"The Roman Centurion's Story" will be performed at His House Community Church in Senoia Sunday at 11 a.m..

Several churches will have family breakfasts and Easter egg hunts for children either on Saturday preceding Easter or following worship services on Sunday morning. Many churches also have Easter sunrise services planned.
