Fast facts about the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellnes

Fulton County's Department of Health and Wellness, led by Adewale Troutman, M.D., M.P.H, under the direction of Deputy County Manager Keith Chadwell, exists to protect and promote the health of the people of Fulton County.

The Department of Health and Wellness operates 18 health centers and provides the following services to maintain public health:

Services for children and youth. These includes the children first initiative, early intervention for young children with developmental delays, violence prevention program, 17 teen clinics, a teen mobile health van, college physicals, vision and hearing screenings, peer educators, after-school mentoring, health fairs, community outreach, and dental services for children ages 3-17.

Services for women. These services include family planning, including a minimum of 13 prenatal visits for pregnant women; women's health; infant vitality initiative to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and the high incidence of low birth weight babies in Fulton County; WIC, a program to improve the nutritional status of women and children, Parent Infant Intervention Program to improve birth outcomes, self-esteem and positive infant-child environment.

Communicable disease services. Services in this area include sexually transmitted diseases and HIV counseling, testing and treatment, and tuberculosis prevention and treatment, including Ryan White funded services; epidemiological reporting and surveillance of infectious diseases.

General medical services include stroke and heart attack prevention programminimizing risk factors through preventative education, early detection and hypertension treatment.

Immunization for adults and children

Community health education and promotion division.

Services in this division include education about risk factors including smoking, prenatal care, child safety, breast cancer education; coordinate Safe Kids in Fulton coalition, smoking cessation program, and immunization campaigns.

Community health planning includes creating partnerships and collaborating with community organizations to improve access to health care.

Environmental health focuses on enforcement and monitoring related to the Clean Indoor Air Ordinance, sanitation, drinking water, food service, swimming pools, and safe disposal of sewage.

Planning and evaluation provides analysis of community health programs.

Emergency medical services coordination includes emergency medical direction and quality assurance to 911 communications center.
