By this time next month, one of Fairburn's longtime public servants will be gone.

City administrator Tony Cox announced last week that he's leaving his post. Cox is moving to Radford, Va., to take the city's manager's post in the town near Roanoke.

He is quick to point out the reasons he's leaving are strictly personal.

"I'll be a lot closer to my family, and they have a really good school system up there for my kids," he said.

Cox has served in Fairburn for nine years and is quite proud of some of his accomplishments. Fairburn now runs its own cable company and offers Internet service to its customers.

He's also glad the city has managed the explosive growth that has come into the area during the last few years.

During the last two years, Cox has brought the City Council reguular reports of how rapidly the city's growing and an update on residential and commercial growth in the area.

"We've been able to determine what type of growth we wanted in the area, which is always good," he said.

Cox's last day in Fairburn will be April 12.
