Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown supports a proposal for the town of Tyrone to contract with the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority to maintain the town's fledgling sewer system.

"Tyrone does not have the appropriate staff on board to provide this function and this move will be a great help as well as provide a cost savings to our neighbor to the north," said Brown.

WASA does not need approval from City Council for the arrangement, but the authority has not made a final decision on whether a deal can be worked with Tyrone.

WASA has given General Manager Larry Turner approval to negotiate with Tyrone over the town's request.

Tyrone officials requested the arrangement to hold down costs of hiring additional personnel.

Tyrone's sewer system, which came after several legal battles, will have just two pump stations but no treatment plant since Fairburn officials have agreed to treat the wastewater. The system will serve a 292-home subdivision, some commercial parcels and a possible office complex.

The maximum sewage capacity available for the system is 250,000 gallons.
