CDC bioterrorism expert to speak at CCSU March 21 Richard Meyer, director of the Centers for Disease Control's Bioterrorism Rapid Response and Advanced Technology Laboratory, will speak on "Responding to Bioterrorism" Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. in room 10 of the University's Lecture Hall. Meyer comes to speak in conjunction with Clayton State's spring biology seminar series. In "Responding to Bioterrorism," Meyer, who has just returned from aiding bioterrorism security in the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, will address aspects of preventing, detecting and responding to bioterrorist acts. "Meyer lectured on bioterrorism at Clayton State in 2000, and his talk was so well received that we had standing room only," says Dr. Greg Hampikian, an acquaintance of Meyer through his work at the CDC and associate professor of biology at Clayton State. In light of the six-month anniversary of terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Hampikian predicts that Meyer's Mar. 21 lecture will draw and even larger crowd than his previous appearance. For more information on Meyer, or bioterrorism in general, visit the CDC Bioterrorism website at www.cdc.gov/programs/bio.htm. To see photos of and read comments about Meyer's spring 2000 visit to Clayton State, or to read articles about handling bioterrorism, visit Hampikian's website at http://a-s.clayton.edu/hampikian/cssa/BioTerror/Bioterrorism.html . Clayton College & State University, a state university of the University System of Georgia, is located in Morrow, in Atlanta's Southern Crescent.
