A Fayette County jury has found a Palmetto man guilty of several charges stemming from a home invasion last March at a north Fayette residence located at the Fayette-Fulton county line.

Claude James Bell Jr. was found guilty Tuesday of burglary, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison by Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr.

The jury also found Bell not guilty of kidnapping.

According to police reports, the Bell and another suspect entered the home, which is located on Old Jonesboro Road, dressed in ski masks to conceal their identity. But the female victim was able to positively identify Bell as one of the intruders because she knew him, police said.

Bell demanded money from the victim, according to court documents.

Also in Superior Court, a Fayette County man was convicted by a jury for assaulting his wife in a domestic dispute in September.

Mark A. Flammond, 30, was found guilty Tuesday of aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit burglary, cruelty to children in the second degree and criminal damage to property in the second degree.

The charges stemmed from an altercation during which Flammond assaulted his wife by striking her vehicle with another vehicle and with a rifle. The incident occurred at a residence on Rising Starr Road where the victim and the couple's two children were staying with a friend.

Flammond was sentenced to eight years in prison by Superior Court Judge Paschal A. English Jr.
