A traffic stop for a broken headlight has led to the largest cocaine and crack cocaine bust in Peachtree City's history, according to police.

Police believe the two suspects who were arrested last week may have been selling drugs in Peachtree City, said Police Chief James Murray.

The drugs "were all individually packaged for sale to the residents of the community," Murray said.

The traffic stop began early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Ga. highways 54 and 74 when Officer Eric Powell noticed a broken headlight on an Oldsmobile Cutlass, Murray said.

The driver of the vehicle, Paige Tolbert, 26, of Newnan, was found with 72 individually wrapped plastic bags of suspected crack cocaine, Murray said. Alton Gene Evans, 31, of Newnan, a passenger in the vehicle, tried to leave the scene and fought with officers trying to arrest him, the chief added.

Evans was later searched by personnel at the Fayette County Jail and found to have 46 individually wrapped plastic bags of suspected powder cocaine and four bags of suspected marijuana, all stuffed in his underwear, Murray said.

Tolbert was charged with driving under the influence (marijuana), possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and failure to meet headlight requirements.

Evans was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and one felony count of obstruction of a police officer.

The incident is still under investigation as detectives check out the "party" at a local apartment complex the suspects said they were coming from, Murray said.

"It was a really good arrest and no one got hurt," Murray said. No weapons were found in the vehicle or on the person of either suspect, he added.

"It just goes to show you that there are people like that in our community," Murray said
