Council considers rezoning requests

An application for a new office building on Ga. Highway 54 on the east side of Fayetteville has cleared the Planning and Zoning Commission and is now before the City Council.

Development plans for a 5,040 sq. ft. building at the highway's intersection with Booker Avenue were approved by the commission in December. The proposed structure is a one-story building with a basement.

The applicant wants a rezoning from R-P to O-I to allow retail space in the building, as he has a potential tenant that would like to locate a deli or a coffee shop there. He told the council at Thursday night's work session that he has a verbal commitment from an attorney who would take up approximately half of the building.

Another request that has recently been passed up from the Planning and Zoning Commission is the proposed annexation and rezoning of 36.1 acres at the rear of the Lakeside on Redwine subdivision. The land is part of a larger tract owned by P.K. Dixon, who recently reached an agreement with the city to settle litigation concerning the property.

The City Council will conduct its regular meeting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.
