Wheat mulling commission run By JOHN
THOMPSON
This fall's election may feature a familiar face to many Fayette voters. Former Fayetteville Mayor Mike Wheat appeared before the Tyrone Town Council last week and said he is considering throwing his hat into the ring in one of the County Commission races. If he decides to run, Wheat said he would run against either Chairman Greg Dunn or Linda Wells. "I'm concerned the communication has broken down between the County Commission and the cities, and that's not good for the county," he said. Wheat was elected a Fayetteville city councilman in August 1988 and became mayor in 1990. He left Fayetteville politics in 1999. If he decides to run, Wheat said he would need the support of officials in Tyrone to help isolate some of the key issues for the fall campaign. The Tyrone leaders were enthusiastic to hear that Wheat was considering running. "You've got 100 percent of my support," said Councilman Ronnie Cannon, who has been a frequent sharp critic of current county commissioners. Councilman Paul Letourneau also offered his support and encouraged Wheat to plunge into the race.
