As part of Black History Month at Holly Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Rev. David Morrow presented a plaque to Gerri Holt in recognition of her outstanding service and exemplary commitment to the church and her community.

She came to Peachtree City, along with her late husband, Luther, from Michigan nine years ago. Luther died a year ago.

They both looked around to see how they might serve their new community. Luther was interested in sports and Gerri's interest lay in the field of history.

The Luther Holt Memorial All Children's Playground was named for the man who devoted many hours to children in Peachtree City.

Gerri put together a heritage organization to record not only the heritage of the area, but also wanted to see that all the cemeteries in Peachtree City were recognized and were looked after.

They both participated in events at Holly Grove Church in south Peachtree City. The church was in existence for 60 years before Peachtree City was created in 1959.

"I really miss Luther," said Gerri, "and I'm so glad to have many good friends around me and will continue to help in historical projects."
