United Way seeks outstanding volunteers

United Way in Fayette County is looking for a few good men and women and teens to recognize at its 11th annual volunteer recognition banquet.

The program recognizes adults and young people who have exhibited outstanding volunteer efforts over the past year. Nominees in each category will be honored at the annual luncheon in early May.

"Volunteers mean so much to the community," said Jack Krakeel, Fayette County director of Fire and Emergency Services and chairman of the local Volunteerism Committee. "They are a rich resource of giving, and we want to recognize their efforts."

Anyone can nominate a volunteer. Rules are as follows:

Nominees must live in Fayette County.

Each nominee's volunteer service must be truly voluntary and not to meet court mandates or school requirements. Individual students as well as Beta Club, Key Club and other extracurricular club members are eligible.

Youth nominees must be high school students in ninth through 12th grades.

Phone the United Way office at 770-254-8497. Nomination forms also are available at the Fayette County Public Library and area high schools. Deadline for nominations is March 28.
