Wednesday, March 6, 2002 Give your home a makeover in an afternoon It doesn't take a lot of time or money to transform the look and feel of your home. In fact, sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest impressions. With this in mind, the Better Sleep Council (BSC) offers advice on how to makeover your home (and your mood) room-by-room. "Giving your home a makeover can be easy and fun. It's also something you can do in one afternoon or less. Simple changes can quickly enhance your mood and the way you feel about your home," says Andrea Herman, director of the Better Sleep Council. To give your home an "afternoon" makeover, the Better Sleep Council offers the following tips: Kick-start your kitchen. A warm and inviting kitchen can make the time you spend there more enjoyable. For a big impact, paint an accent wall an uplifting color, like red or yellow. A quick coat of paint is an easy way to spice up a room and improve the way you feel. Better your bedroom. Start your bedroom makeover with the center of the room your bed. Check your mattress to make sure it's still providing you comfort, support and adequate space. If it's not, it may be time for a new one. A comfortable mattress can help jump-start your mood each morning by enhancing the quality of your sleep each night. Liven up your living room. Area rugs, framed art and throw pillows are easy and inexpensive ways to dramatically change the look and feel of your living room. Even just re-arranging your furniture can quickly enhance your surroundings and improve your outlook. Beautify your bathroom. A colorful shower curtain, pretty towels or even a display of scented soaps can liven up your bathroom. By adding colorful decorative accessories, you can easily perk up the way you feel each time you enter the room. "As you makeover your home, be sure each room exudes warmth and positive energy. Whether it's a comfortable bed or a brightly painted accent wall, your physical surroundings should elevate your mood and spirit," adds Herman.
