Service station heroics cited By JOHN MUNFORD
Joel Graham and Scott Walker of Graham's BP Car Care in Peachtree City still remember the crunch of metal and the sound of breaking glass from a horrible auto accident in January. "It's by far the worst noise I've ever heard," Graham said. "It sounded like somebody dropped the truck out of a helicopter." Two trucks had collided in front of the service station at Ga. Highway 54 and Stevens Entry. One of the vehicles flipped over and landed on its side, threatening to roll on top of the driver after she tried to worm her way out of the wreckage. As several bystanders pushed on the truck to keep it from rolling on the woman, Graham ran back to the service station to grab a jack. Moments after Graham and Walker got the jack in place, emergency crews reached the scene and put wood cribbing under the vehicle to stabilize it. The woman was later extricated safely. The pair's actions were applauded by Peachtree City Fire Chief Stony Lohr, who honored them at last week's City Council meeting for their "quick action and willingness to become involved." Graham and Walker noted that the intersection has had more than its share of wrecks. They would like to see the city put a stop light there. "A lot of folks gun their car to get through it and you'll hear the tires squeal," Walker said. As for their efforts at this particular accident, these two heroes shrug off the praise. "We just wanted to do what we could to help out," Walker said. Graham added, "I just hope people would treat us the same if we were ever in an accident."
