County to convene security conference

By a unanimous vote, The Fulton County Commission decided last week to focus on security in the next few months.

Commission Chairman Mike Kenn introduced a resolution calling for a homeland security conference for Fulton County government and the nine municipalities in the county. The resolution calls for the county manager to convene a homeland security conference in the next 60 days.

The conference represents the first time that the Board of Commissioners and the elected officials of Fulton County's nine cities will meet to discuss the issues pertaining to homeland security.

The idea for the conference stems from conversations between Kenn and several elected officials at one of the chairman's monthly mayors' meetings. The goal of the conference will be to ensure that there is a coordinated delivery of public services should a terrorist strike occur within Fulton County.

Kenn spokesman Michael Harris said the county is working with the municipalities to set up the conference within the next two months.
