Council pulls the plug on $8,900 copier By JOHN
THOMPSON
If the Senoia Library wants a copier, it's going to have to find a cheaper one. That was the strong message the City Council sent Monday night after denying a request to purchase a $8,900 copier. City clerk Debbie Hogan said the library wanted the capability of networking its five computers together and also wanted a scanning capability on the copier. But Councilman Bill Wood said the city could purchase five color printers for a much cheaper price. Wood also found problems with the process since nobody could give him an exact number of how many copies the library makes on a monthly basis. He urged new city manager Murray McAfee to more towards a need-based analysis of potential purchases and wants to see more details of the potential revenue for a copier at the library. When asked where the source of funding would come for the copier, McAfee said the library would use the $10,000 it was recently given by the county. Mayor Dianne Cleveland said she thought the library had more plans for those funds, instead of just using it to buy one piece of equipment. Councilman Robert Hannah also thought the price was a little high. "You can pay somebody to walk from the library to City Hall and make copies for a lot less," he said. The council asked new librarian Kathy Goodell and the library board to do a needs assessment and report back to the council.
