Children taken into custody after abuse allegations in north Fayette By JOHN
MUNFORD
A north Fayette woman has been arrested for several counts of mistreating her children at their Fairburn home. Nefretira Antoinette Holyfield, 27, has been charged with one felony count of cruelty to children, four misdemeanor counts of contributing to the deprivation of a minor, three misdemeanor counts of cruelty to children in the second degree, a misdemeanor count of battery and a misdemeanor count of reckless conduct. The four children, who range in age from 3 to 9 years old, were taken into protective custody by the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services, according to warrants for Holyfield's arrest. The warrants allege that Holyfield struck the 9-year-old boy on his back and buttocks with a belt and extension cord and punched him in the head in front of three other children. Authorities also believe she failed to provide proper food and supervision for the children at their home. The reckless conduct charge stems from an allegation that Holyfield took a 3-year-old boy with her to purchase marijuana.
