PTC Council may legislate pooper scoopers on paths By JOHN
MUNFORD In an effort to make citizens more accountable for their pets' actions, the Peachtree City Council is considering an ordinance to require residents to clean up after their pets on the city's cart path system. At its regular meeting Thursday night, council tabled a proposed ordinance that would briefly address the matter. The ordinance states that "people accompanied by pets are responsible to clean up after such pets along the path system and on city streets during high-volume pedestrian events such as parades." The ordinance also requires that individuals "carry the appropriate materials to ensure that they remove the pet's excrement from along the paths and streets and dispose of it in a sanitary method when they get back to their home." A memo about the ordinance from Randy Gaddo, the city's director of leisure services, noted that the recreation department has no way of policing the path system for this policy. "We anticipate that reports will generally come from citizens who observe others in the act," Gaddo wrote. "Verification will be difficult and generally it will be up to the citizen reporting the infraction to produce the evidence that supports the accusation."
