Buckhead Brewery, ice cream parlor headed to Lexington Circle By JOHN
MUNFORD Development of commercial parcels at Lexington Circle will be allowed to continue despite the Peachtree City's current development moratorium. The City Council has ruled that the project was worthy of a waiver to the moratorium requirements. The site, located at the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Walt Banks Road, will contain a host of commercial parcels and mixed uses. Council also granted a moratorium waiver for Lexington Park, the adjacent residential development, so the remainder of the homes will be built by John Wieland Homes. The city has already received plans for a CVS Pharmacy for Lexington Circle. Plans have also been developed for a Bruster's Ice Cream building and a Buckhead Brewery structure. Because the sites won't be held to the limitations of the moratorium, the city Planning Commission will be allowed to consider them for approval. Though the moratorium is in place, city staff is still working with developers to advise them on construction projects and plans. The city is allowing developers to install landscaping so a building may be opened with a temporary certificate of occupancy. But the developer must agree to make any changes necessary to get it to comply to any new landscape requirements that might be considered by council in coming months. Typically, the city requires a landscape plan for each development that must be approved before the building department can issue a certificate of occupancy for a given structure. The Planning Commission is empowered to approve or deny the landscape plans as one of its routine duties.
