NAACP to hear from candidate for Congress
State Sen. Donzella James of College Park will address the Fayette County NAACP's monthly meeting Saturday. James, who serves the 35 District, is an announced candidate for the new 13th District seat in the U.S. Congress, created during a recent special redistricting session of the state Legislature. The district includes a small portion of north Fayette. She is vice chairman of both the State and Local Government Operations Committee and the Consumer Affairs Committee. She also is the secretary of the Defense, Science and Technology Committee and a member of the powerful Appropriations Committee. The Democratic senator was elected in 1994. NAACP will meet at the Flat Rock AME Church Saturday at 4 p.m. The church is at 148 Old Chapel Road just off Ga. Highway 54 west. The public is invited.
