P&Z ushers in new year

The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission honored an outgoing member and kept its top two offices unchanged during its first voting meeting of 2002.

Al Lipscomb was recognized for more than six years of service on the commission, which ended in December when her term expired and she decided not to seek another term. City officials are reviewing applications for her seat and hope to make an appointment in February.

Myron Coxe will remain in his role as the commission's chairman for another year, with Kevin Bittinger continuing as vice chairman. Bittinger and Allan Feldman began new terms on the commission in January after being reappointed by Mayor Kenneth Steele and confirmed by the City Council in January.

In other business at the Jan. 22 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting:

Covenants and restrictions for The Villages at LaFayette Park were approved.

A variance request from Willene Beard of 105 Eastfield Court, concerning yard and height guidelines, was approved.

Development plans for a new McDonald's restaurant building, to be developed on the same site as the existing one on Ga. Highway 85, were tabled at the applicant's request so that more details can be worked out.

Elevation plans for Clairmont Building 2, a commercial project on Ga. Highway 314, were approved. Landscaping requirements must meet plans approved in 1997 or new plans submitted with staff approval before a building permit is granted.

Development plans for Mayfield Dairies at 105 Robinson Road were removed from the agenda are being withdrawn by the applicant.

A variance request and revised site plans for J&J Quality Homes, concerning Lot 24 in the industrial park, were approved.
