Blue House decision could come Monday By JOHN
THOMPSON Maybe Monday will be the day that Chuck Smith learns the fate of his piece of property. For nearly three months, the Senoia City Council has debated whether Smith can tear down the Blue House on Broad Street. The issue has polarized the town between historical preservationists and those who feel Smith should be able to do whatever he wants to with his property. Last week, Smith asked the City Council for permission to move the house to his in-laws' property on old Ga. Highway 85. Smith has a contract pending with BellSouth to purchase his property. The phone company wants to use the property to expand its operations in the fast-growing area, but has no use for the house. Senoia Area Historical Society President Perry Benson has led the fight to make sure the house is preserved, but backed up a little last week because he was concerned for his personal welfare, he said. Whether the City Council acts on the issue is anybody's guess. City Attorney Drew Whalen told the city's leaders that they could actually wait 45 days before rendering a decision. During Monday's meeting, the town also will hear from two residents who want to make repairs to homes in the town's historic district. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
