Sen. Mike Crotts, Rep. Saxby Chambliss to address Fayette GOP

The Fayette County Republican Party will host its February First Saturday Breakfast this Saturday at IHOP in Fayetteville, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Guest speaker will be state Sen. Mike Crotts. U.S. Rep. Saxby Chambliss, a candidate for U.S. Senate, also will speak.

Crotts was first elected to the Georgia Senate in November of 1992 for the 1993-94 term of the Georgia General Assembly. He represents the 17th District, which currently includes Henry and Butts counties and portions of Newton and Rockdale counties. Under the redistricting plan adopted by the Legislature last year, the new 17th District will include portions of Fayette along with five other counties.

The senator began his fifth term in the Senate in 2001-2002. He had been unopposed since being elected in 1992.

Crotts was elected by his colleagues to serve the 2001-2002 legislative term as vice-chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus. He serves on six standing committees: Appropriations, Ethics, Transportation, Insurance and Labor, Banking and Financial Institutions, and Reapportionment.

He is a charter member of the Conyers Kiwanis Club and was awarded the prestigious George F. Hixson Fellowship Award in August 2000. He is past president of Choices for Children, a nonprofit advocacy group that works in conjunction with Georgia's court system on behalf of abused and neglected children.

In business and professional associations, Crotts is the former chairman of the Standards and Ethics Committee of the Board of Realtors, a past president of the Rockdale Board of Realtors and an active member of the American Cancer Society's Rockdale chapter. Prior to his election to the state Senate, he served as chairman of the Rockdale County Board of Zoning and Appeals for seven years, and played a major role in rewriting the county's zoning codes.
