Speeding on cart path will net fine in PTC By JOHN
MUNFORD Although the new electric cars approved for use on Peachtree City's cart paths have a high-speed "street" mode, it could turn out to be costly for anyone caught using it. That's because the City Council has passed an ordinance requiring the electric cars to be driven in their low speed mode, which tops out at 15 mph. In the high speed mode, the Global Electric Motorcar reaches speeds up to 25 mph. But travelling that fast could put other cart path users in danger, so council voted to restrict the speed for users of the GEM and other similar vehicles. City Attorney Rick Lindsey, who also serves as the city's prosecutor in municipal court, said the fines for speeding on the cart path system would likely begin at $250 for the first offense and $500 for the second offense, which is roughly the same way the city treats underage offenders caught driving golf carts.
