A Peachtree City man was arrested last week for kidnapping his girlfriend at knifepoint from his residence at the Summit Apartments.

According to police, Joseph Sumbry, 31, forced the victim into her car with a boxcutter-type knife Wednesday, Jan. 16. A lookout was placed for the vehicle and police spotted it coming back into Peachtree City on Ga. Highway 54 West near the entrance to Wynnmeade subdivision, said Maj. Mike DuPree of the Peachtree City Police Department.

Officers stopped the vehicle and Sumbry complied as officers placed him into custody, DuPree said.

The victim was not seriously injured, according to a police report.

Sumbry was charged with kidnapping, battery and two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree.
