The Union City Council began the new year with a light meeting agenda.

Mayor Ralph Moore and council members Barbara Bohanon and Shirley Jackson were sworn in for their respective new terms in office.

The previously tabled applications from Torrey Homes to annex and to rezone 291 acres of land off Oakley Road were withdrawn by the developer. As a formality, the council had to address the issues to remove them from the table. Both motions were denied unanimously. According to information provided to the council, Torrey Homes is successfully working with Fulton County on the development.

Moore administered the public safety officers' oath to Torino Hawkins and Leon Gates. Hawkins was recognized by the council for a recent humanitarian act.

Three development recommendations from the Planning Commission were brought before the council. All three developments under consideration are off Highpoint Road on the western edge of Union City. The Benchmark Group asked the council to consider the final plat for Lakeview phase one, Torrey Homes asked for Valley Lakes Phase 1B-unit one to be considered, and Cypress Development of Georgia requested approval for The Villas.

Council unanimously approved all requests with the stipulation that the applicants comply with all conditions recommended by the Planning Commission.

Barbara Bohanan voiced a concern regarding the sewer situation on the western side of the city in light of the increased development. Moore said he also had concerns and that discussions were underway with Fulton County and he expected the issue to be resolved favorably.

After the meeting a reception was at the Train Depot honored the newly elected mayor and council members.
