Fairburn is getting ready to usher in an era of change.

That's the assessment from Mayor Betty Hannah, who delivered her state of the city address during Monday night's council meeting.

As she takes office for her fourth term, Hannah said the city plans to embark on some major plans for the upcoming year.

With subdivisions and new development sprouting up around the city like mushrooms after a spring rain, the council will continue to focus on keeping solid development standards.

"We're going to review the comprehensive plan and update it until 2020. I know that seems like a long time, but it's just around the corner," said Hannah.

The council also will examine the city's staffing requirements, to make sure there is enough staff to handle the growth.

Hannah also wants to create a long-term financial plan to make sure the city has the funds to handle future growth and not totally rely on taxes to pay the bills.

City officials also plan to review the operations of the city's utility systems to make sure the rates are competitive.

"We offer some of the best cable service around and we want to make sure we keep that as we continue to expand," said Hannah.

The city also will complete a review of the city's water and sewer capacities to make sure it can deal with the growth.

"We have a really solid foundation and we'll continue to build on that," she said.

Despite the growth that has occurred during the last decade, Hannah said Fairburn still remains a friendly town.

"We will listen if you call us or see us in the grocery store," she said.
