Landmark seniors compete for NHS scholarships

Landmark Christian School seniors and National Honor Society members Ashley Cullop and Julie Van't Wout have been nominated to compete for National Honor Society scholarships sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Two hundred national NHS winners will be chosen this spring to receive $1,000 college scholarships.

High schools throughout the country were given the opportunity to each nominate two senior members of the National Honor Society to compete. Nominees were selected based on their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience and academic record.

They were also required to write essays.

In recogonizing leadership in co-curricular activities as well as academic performance, the NHS scholarship stresses the importance of a well-rounded education. Co-curricular activities are an essential part of the school curriculum.

Cullop, the daughter of Sterling and Lucinda Cullop of Newnan, also is a member of the LCS girls varsity basketball team and the school's Honor Board.

Van't Wout, the daughter of Bill and Debbie Van't Wout of Peachtree City, also is a member of the Landmark state championship volleyball team, the tennis team, the school's Honor Board and is the senior class president.
