The Coweta County Board of Education and the city of Newnan met early this morning to try and hammer out final details for the county's fine arts center.

The site for the arts center is on Lower Fayetteville Road and it will adjoin a convention center and hotel that the city of Newnan is planning to build.

The arts center will hold 999 patrons and provide the county much needed performance space.

City and school officials have been wrangling over details such as who will own which parcel of property and how it will be maintained, said Superintendent of Education Richard Brooks.

Brooks said he believes his board can finalize plans with city officials today and move forward with a construction schedule.

The next move is for the architect to bring another set of drawings back to the board for final approval.

Board officials are hopeful that a ground breaking will occur shortly.
