Entertainment promoter enters 13th District fray

William Coit, a graduate of Franklin High School in Franklin, La., and holder of a B.A. in political science from Southern University Baton Rouge, has announced his bid for U.S. Congress in the 13th District.

The new district was created during last year's special session of the state Legislature, and includes a small portion of northeast Fayette. Its population is 47 percent white, 42 percent African-American, 10 percent Hispanic, and 1 percent Asian, making it the most multicultural district in the state, said Coit.

Coit is president of BFPN.tv, an entertainment and golf promotions company. He was an intern with U.S. Sen. J. Bennett Johnston of Louisiana and vice president of the Long Beach California Young Republicans, Student Government Association vice president, Student Senate president, and vice president of the Political Science Association.

Coit volunteered with Operations Crossroads Africa in Ghana, West Africa, where he helped build a storage facility and installed machinery for the production of cocoa.

An exploratory committee, William Coit For Congress, has been formed to begin fund-raising. Coit said the campaign is expected to raise upwards of $2 million for the Republican Primary Aug. 20 and the General Election Nov. 6.
