Work on amphitheater moving along

Fayetteville is moving closer toward completion of its municipal amphitheater, as a landscaping plan is now under review by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The arena, which will be located at the edge of the Village multi-use development and directly adjacent to Fayette County High School, is tentatively scheduled to be completed by Aug. 15, according to Fayetteville Main Street director Nancy Price. An official ground-breaking will likely be held in February, althoug work on the project has already begun, she added.

The amphitheater is being financed by a portion of a $2.25 million bond recently approved by the city that will also fund other downtown improvements. The amphitheater's estimated cost has been placed at $1.5 million.

Construction should be fairly smooth, Price said, in part because there is relatively little to construct it is an open-air facility with little more than a stage and mostly lawn seats.
