PTC Library offers special program for babies, care givers

The Peachtree City Library is offering a new program aimed at making library patrons out of the youngest babies.

Babytime will consist of playtime, stories and songs. Sessions are planned for every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. beginning Jan. 17.

Janice Dukes, the city's youth services librarian, said the program is designed to be an interactive process between the child and parent or caregiver.

"Teaching the skills and values of reading is an important part of every child's life and if you begin that teaching at an early age children become more receptive to learning through reading," Dukes said.

Babytime is open to any child from birth to 2 years old.

Dukes said the program, which is designed to be repetitive, will give parents a chance to make their child's first experience at the library a fun one "and hopefully encourage them to become lifetime library users."

Similar programs are offered in other libraries across the state and Dukes said it is a much-needed addition to the library's resources.

"I have had some requests to begin a program like this and believe that interest will grow once we get the program going," Dukes said.
