The changing of the guard occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Coweta County Commission chambers.

Outgoing Chairman Robert Wood passed his gavel to new Chairman Jim McGuffey. Coweta County is one of the few counties that has a rotating chairman each year.

McGuffey immediately put his stamp on the commission by announcing the meeting schedule will be changed.

The commission will continue to meet first Tuesdays at 9 a.m. McGuffey said the meeting on the second Tuesday would be eliminated and the public hearings on the second Tuesday will be moved to the second Thursday after the first Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The commission's final meeting each month will be the third Thursday at 6 p.m.

The commission also heard about accomplishments during last year's term, including:

Opening of the Pine Road Fairgrounds facility. The facility later wins a national Design-Build Award from American Buildings Company.

Completion of connection to Atlanta Water System.

Purchase of Brown's Mill Battle site using state funds and green space funding.

Construction began on a new arts center.

Sale of $2.4 million in property in the Shenandoah and Creekside industrial parks.

Renovation of facilities and beginning of runway expansion at airport.

Passage of a special purpose local option sales tax.

Purchase of Newnan Plaza shopping center for a new court complex.
