King Day celebration planned in Fayette A celebration of the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is planned for Saturday, Jan. 19 in Fayette County. In collaboration with and support from the Peachtree City administration, Police Department and the Fayette County Board of Education, the Fayette NAACP will conduct the day's events at Starr's Mill High School auditorium from 10 a.m. to noon. Rep. Tyrone Brooks, civil rights activist and a longtime member of the Georgia House of Representatives, will be keynote speaker. Born in Warren County near Augusta, Brooks worked with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and King during the Civil Rights Movement. He represents the 54th District in Fulton County. The event is open to everyone regardless of race, creed or color. The school is at 1378 Ga. Highway 74 south, near its intersection with Ga. Highway 85. Phone 770-460-9934. Also, the regular monthly NAACP meeting will be Saturday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. at Flat Rock AME Church, 148 Old Chapel Road just off Ga. Highway 54 between Fayetteville and Peachtree City.
