PTC to vote
on 90-day development moratorium
By JOHN MUNFORD
When you're frozen out the first time, try, try again. That's what the Peachtree City Council will do Thursday night as it convenes at 7 p.m. to discuss a 90-day moratorium on certain development activities. The moratorium was on the agenda for last week's regular council meeting but with the inclement weather, council decided to delay the discussion until the specially called meeting Thursday. The moratorium would apply to all rezonings, annexations, site plan approvals, subdivision plat approvals and landscape plan approvals. The move is being considered to give the new council time to complete the city's Comprehensive Plan update, and to review and update city ordinances and policies dealing with development activity. New Mayor Steve Brown, who proposed the moratorium, said he wants to buy time so the city can make sure all development going forward is done properly. Particularly, he wants to focus on: Refining the city's land use ordinances. Insuring that new federal and state mandates on stormwater management are followed. A thorough study of the changes recommended by the Planning Commission to the city's Comprehensive Land Use Plan. A requirement for developers to insure that newly planted trees live beyond the first two or three years after the site is developed. The addition of overlay zones in certain areas of the city to add requirements beyond the normal zoning regulations.
