PTC wants your opinion on new city flag design

Peachtree City officials want to know what you think about the city's new flag design.

The design, which can be viewed on the city's Web site, features a silhouette of a couple walking with a child on a cart path that leads to a sunburst in the background. It also incorporates the "old" Peachtree City logo as a tree alongside the cart path.

Citizens are asked to e-mail their comments to sherry@peachtree-city.org. Comments may also be faxed to the recreation department at 770-631-2541 to the attention of Sherry McHugh or by mail to the Recreation Department at 191 McIntosh Trail.

McHugh said Wednesday that only seven comments had been received by the department, all through e-mail. None of the comments were overwhelmingly in favor of the new design, she said.

All comments are welcomed, she added.

One citizen said it would be more appropriate to use patriotic colors, McHugh said. Another citizen said the flag design was "too busy" while another criticized the type style used, McHugh said.

Another citizen wondered what was wrong with the city's current flag, McHugh said.

The Peachtree City Recreation Commission is slated to consider the comments at its meeting Monday, Jan. 28.

Last year, the City Council charged the recreation department with handling the process of designing a new city flag, with Councilman Dan Tennant bringing forward the original idea. As the department researched the issue, it was determined that an old copy of the city's flag could not be found.

The current design was shown to council at a meeting last month and drew several comments from council members.

Councilwoman Annie McMenamin said she thought the sun in the logo should look more natural.

"I have never seen a sun look like that," she said.
