Free senior luncheon a success

More than 350 seniors from Fayette and Coweta counties met for a festive holiday luncheon at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center recently. Regions Bank, the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center, Wesley-Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City, American Hearing Centers, Georgia Rehab Center and Heritage Ridge of Newnan joined hands to sponsor the free luncheon as a thank-you to area residents.

Prizes, including a television, gift certificates and holiday treats were awarded. All who attended took home a box of Belgium chocolates from Belgium's Best in Peachtree City. A sumptuous meal provided by the Wyndham was served as the crowd enjoyed music by the Peachtree Jazz Edition. Vocalists Steve Cole and Teresa Lyons took the group on a musical tour of familiar Christmas tunes and songs from the Big Band era. As soon as the plates were cleared, the tapping of toes became the twirling of skirts as couples moved to the dance floor. Mr. Bones, played the bones to various tunes, evoking laughter as well as enjoyment as he clicked and clacked in tune to the music.

The event was taped for the popular "Aging in Georgia" show, which is televised in Fayette and Coweta counties.

Gina Weathersby, coordinator of the event said, "We were thrilled with the large turnout. Next year we plan to have an even bigger and better event. Unfortunately this year we had to turn some people away due to the overwhelming response, next year we hope to be able to accommodate all who would like to attend." Weathersby is already working on next year's luncheon. Those interested in securing a sponsorship may do so by calling her at 770-253-8080.
