The Fayette Shrine Club, a member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple in Atlanta, raised $37,000 last year for local charities and to help support 22 Shrine hospitals for crippled and burned children throughout North America.

It takes $1.5 million a day to operate these hospitals.

The Fayette Youth Protection Home was a recipient of some of these funds for use in housing abused children. The organization operates two homes housing as many as 20 children, one in the north end of the county, and one in the Brooks area.

"Our main goal is to help children, not only in these hospitals, but also support those in our local community," said Fayette Shrine member Walt Swafford.

If you know of a child under 18 who needs help, phone Swafford at 770-460-2019 or Jerry Mask, 770-461-2772.
