Former planning director returns to Fayetteville

A familiar face is returning to Fayetteville City Hall.

Jahnee Prince begins today as the city's planning director, a position she previously held for nearly three years before leaving to work for a private firm. She replaces Maurice Ungaro, who replaced her and left a few months ago to join the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Prince first came to Fayetteville in January 1997, after working for the ARC herself. One of her duties there was writing the county's transportation study, and she came to know many city and county leaders during that project.

She joined Cooper Carry Architects in Atlanta in August 1999. That firm designed the Village, a mixed-use development now under construction next to Fayette County High School. She then moved to Cobb County's Planning Department earlier this year.

A DeKalb County resident, Prince heard about Ungaro's departure and became interested in her old job. "I really liked working there," she said. "So I decided to come back."

She will be working with some familiar faces, including city engineering and development director Don Easterbrook and City Manager Joe Morton, both of whom manned those posts in her previous stint in Fayetteville.

Overall, she knows that her familiarity with the city and its leaders is an advantage. "I know what I'm getting myself into," she said recently with a chuckle.

A native of the Midwest, Prince holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in city and regional planning from Ohio State University.
