Peachtree City cable upgrade finished By DAVE
HAMRICK
AT&T Broadband activated its new fiber-optic cable service in Peachtree City Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, turning on improved service to 12,000 customers. If you haven't noticed any difference yet, turn off your cable box for an hour or two. The box has to be off in order for a signal to reach it and switch it over to the new service. After the upgrade, customers will find that the number of channels available on the old cable boxes has gone from 55 to 78, and some of the stations they're accustomed to watching will be on different channels than before. For approximately 500 customers who preregistered for the digital cable upgrade, AT&T expects to deliver new boxes this weekend. The new digital boxes will make 260 channels available, plus access to more pay per view and movie channels, along with music channels. AT&T spokesman Reg Griffin said some areas of the city experienced outages last week when construction crews working to install the upgrade cut the lines by mistake. "Fortunately, all of that should be coming to a close," he said. For those who haven't yet ordered the new digital cable boxes, there's no additional charge. Phone 678-545-2289 (2BUY).
