Fifty members and friends helped the Old Campbell County Historical Society celebrate its 30th birthday at its Christmas luncheon recently.

The society was formed in 1970 and has been busy in that time housing research records and museum artifacts and refurbishing its headquarters, the 1871 Old Campbell County Courthouse.

The county was formed in 1828 from parts of Fayette, DeKalb, Carroll and Coweta counties. In 1932 the county became part of Fulton County.

In honor of those early society workers, its research room has been named for the late Rev. Henley Campbell and Fred Greer. At the 30th anniversary meeting, its meeting room was named for long-time workers Annie Sara Camp Johnston and Frank Parker.

Also at the birthday luncheon, a new category of membership was announced. Those who were born in Old Campbell County will be given a complimentary one-year membership.

Guests were from several other societies including Frances Cowart Reeves, who was born in Old Campbell County, and Carolyn Cary from Fayette County.

The society meets at the Old Campbell County Courthouse each third Sunday at 3 p.m. For information phone Dot Lassiter, 770-064-6007 or Nancy Cornell, 770-996-6796.
