A pedestrian in the Dekor parking lot at the Fayette Pavilion picked a fight with the wrong motorist Saturday afternoon.

Jerry L. Dillard, 38, of Jonesboro threatened to kill an off-duty detective for the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, according to warrants for his arrest. Dillard became angered with the way Sgt. Leslie Gillespie was driving his private truck in the parking lot, said Maj. Bruce Jordan, director of investigations for the Sheriff's Department.

At one point, Gillespie got out of his truck and that's when Dillard charged at him, Jordan said. Dillard stopped when Gillespie told him he was a police officer, Jordan said.

Jordan said he was not aware of the exact nature of Dillard's complaint against Sgt. Gillespie's driving.

Dillard was charged with one felony count of making terroristic threats and acts. An independent witness to the incident confirmed the threat otherwise charges couldn't have been filed, Jordan said.
