A familiar name in Peachtree City dining has returned in a slightly different location.

Sweet Basil, touted as "a bistro of Peachtree City," is now open in the Wisdom Pointe shopping center on Ga. Highway 74 just north of the cart bridge. It sits in a building with several other established eating establishments, such as Baci, Sushi Yoshi and Dark Horse Pub.

Owner Syed Alam operated Sweet Basil for more than four years on Peachtree Parkway before returning to his native India for a year to tend to family business. The restaurant has been open in its new location since Dec. 10, offering Mediterranean cuisine and other delicacies for lunch and early dinner. A more extensive dinner menu will be available after the holidays.

Emphasizing the use of the freshest ingredients, the staff at Sweet Basil starts each morning by baking the bread that will be used that day. The menu includes a variety of cold salads and foccacia sandwiches, along with quiche, pizza and calzones. Typical dishes enjoyed by customers at a recent lunch included rainbow rotini with ham, Dijon chicken with ziti, Rosemary chicken with rice, and Quiche Lorraine.

Alam has spent more than 20 years in the restaurant business in the United States, working at a number of fine dining establishments in Atlanta and acquiring a taste for a variety of food types. He looks forward to letting Peachtree City hear that Sweet Basil is back in business, being confident that word of mouth in the community will make this latest incarnation a success.
