Village townhomes on the way

Developers of The Villages at LaFayette Park are preparing to begin construction on the first residential units slated for the mixed-use site.

A preliminary plat for 30 town homes was presented Tuesday night to the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission at its monthly work session. The infrastructure, including streets, water, sewer and drainage, has been constructed around the site, according to city staff.

The master plan for the entire development was approved more than a year ago. The site consists of about 100 acres, bordered on the south by Ga. Highway 54 and on the north by Fayette County High School, and will include residential and office development as well as the city's proposed amphitheater.

The commission had previously reviewed the building elevations and floor plans, and developers met with city officials to discuss some additional concerns.

Nine of the town home units have been revised from a separate garage and breezeway layout to utilize drive-under garages, apparently because of site grading, a city staff report indicated.

Builders are ready to start once the preliminary plat is approved and a detailed engineering plan meets with staff approval, according to city development director Don Easterbrook.

The Planning and Zoning Commission will convene for its monthly voting meeting this Tuesday at 7 p.m. due to Christmas falling on a Tuesday this year.
