More toys needed for Helping Hands

Santa's helpers at the Fulton County Fire Department still need lots of toys to give away at the 12th annual Helping Hands Holiday Dinner, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 22.

Fulton County District 7 Commissioner William "Bill" Edwards will help hand out the gifts to hundreds of invited needy children at Henderson's Arena, 4380 Stacks Road, College Park. Edwards represents South Fulton County.

Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted through Dec. 19 at Fulton County fire stations.

The Helping Hands Dinner, begun in 1990 by Union City chiropractors Dr. Louis and Dr. Lori Okun, also features carnival events, such as magic shows, climbing walls, a giant slide and entertainment. A board plans the event and also sponsors a ropes confidence course during the year.

The Fire Department will sponsor a Christmas tree, have safety displays and operate the Fire Safety House.

The dinner, activities and gifts are free for persons wearing the Helping Hands Holiday Dinner wrist bands. Free to needy families, the wrist bands can be obtained at county fire stations and the Department of Family and Children Services.
