More funds approved for renovation of flight school restrooms

Peachtree Flight Center will be reimbursed up to $2,500 for repairs it made to the bathroom facility at the building it leases from the Peachtree City Airport Authority.

Last month, the authority agreed to reimburse an initial $3,500 toward repairing the problems without viewing a line-item invoice for the work. At Wednesday night's meeting of the authority, officials from the flight school said the majority of the $6,020 bill was for repairs although the project began with the goal of sprucing the restroom up with new paint and new flooring.

The problems began to unfold as the painting and flooring projects began, according to Tom Strauch, the contractor who performed the work for the flight center.

According to a memo from Strauch:

The bathrooms had suffered sewer leaks, sewer gas leaks and water leaks in the walls and floors.

The concrete under the floors had deteriorated so badly that it had to be replaced before the floors were retiled.

The drywall and vanities in the bathrooms were also so damaged they had to be replaced.

Plumbing and electrical wiring also had to be replaced in some cases (although flight school officials said every effort was made to re-use plumbing fixtures).

It was noted during the meeting that the building has had several different tenants before the flight school began using it.
