Walden Park builder honored

A builder in Walden Park, the 591-acre master planned community in south Fulton County, came away with six top awards at the 21st annual Professionalism Awards Banquet, including two for its Walden Park efforts.

David Weekley Homes, which is building in the Promenade neighborhood of Walden Park, earned two Gold awards for its work in Walden Park. This included recognition in the "Single Family Detached $220,000 to $249,999" category for builders who produce 100 plus homes a year, plus the top award for "Best Interior Merchandising - Detached Model $200,000 to $249,999."

The builder also earned two Gold and one Silver awards for its efforts in other metro Atlanta communities, as well as a Gold award for a citywide promotion.

Another Walden Park builder, Sharon McSwain Homes, won a Gold award for its Realtor Promotion at another Atlanta area community.

The 2001 black-tie awards dinner and program, held Nov. 3 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, was presented by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council to recognize the most outstanding professionals in Atlanta's home building industry.

The program gives members of its 3,800-member association the opportunity to compete with their industry professionals in building, remodeling, marketing and personal achievement areas. This year, 39 industry professionals traveled to Atlanta from across the United States during August to judge the hundreds of entries.

Walden Park, located on West Stubbs Road between Butner Road and Cascade Palmetto Highway, is a mixed-use development which can also be described as environment-friendly, pedestrian-friendly and children-friendly. The homes in the community range in price from the $160,000s to the $600,000s.

Builders in Walden Park include the TownPark Custom Builder Group, which is composed of Homebuilders Construction, Nesbitt Lord & Company, and Covenant Builders and is represented by Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty; plus Sharon McSwain Homes, Traton Homes, Ryland Homes and David Weekley Homes, each of which has its own in-house marketing representatives.

The development is the first master planned community in south Fulton County and is one of the TownPark planned developments from The Macauley Companies, headed by Stephen H. Macauley. The land plan for the community includes a wide variety of housing choices, police and fire facilities, the TownMarket area with a retail complex within walking distance of the residential neighborhoods, and the Walden Park Family Club with its extensive recreational facilities.

The developer's TownPark plan for Walden Park includes 200-plus acres of land devoted to parks and open space. Included in this environmentally friendly community is a conservation easement of 160 acres granted to The Nature Conservancy.

The amenities area consists of the Walden Park Grand Clubhouse, which has a social room with a fireplace; open-air pavilion; and patios overlooking the swimming pool in the aquatic center. Also in the Family Club area are the Jubilee Amphitheater, a children1s play center, a basketball court, a volleyball court, a tennis center, and a village green.
