Principals chosen for new schools By MONROE
ROARK
As Fayette County's two newest elementary schools move a little closer to becoming a reality, the top posts at both schools have been filled for the coming year. The Board of Education Monday night approved the appointments of Jeanie Miller as principal of Cleveland Elementary and Kathryn Corley as principal of Sara Harp Minter Elementary. Both Cleveland (on the western edge of Fayetteville on Lester Road) and Minter (on Ga. Highway 85 south of Fayetteville) are under construction and scheduled to open in the fall of 2002. Miller is the current principal at Kedron Elementary, a post she has held since 1997, and was previously an assistant principal at Braelinn Elementary. An educator since 1976, she has worked in Fayette County since 1990. "It's going to be a great challenge," she said of opening the new school. "I really appreciate the confidence the board and superintendent have placed in me." Corley also has 25 years of experience in education, with 21 of those years in Fayette. She is now in her fifth year as principal at Fayetteville Elementary, before which she led Oak Grove Elementary for its first 12 years of existence, so running a new school is not foreign to her. "It's very rewarding, and a lot of work," she said. "I'm anxious to do it again." While the exact start dates have not yet been set, both expect to begin their new jobs in late February or early March, depending upon when their own replacements are named. That will leave them about six months to tackle such tasks as the acquisition of technology, materials, equipment and assembling a staff to operate it all.
