Motorcycle collides with young pedestrian

A 12-year-old girl was struck by a motorcycle while she crossed Peachtree Parkway Sunday afternoon.

Although police stress the investigation is ongoing, preliminary information indicated that a van had stopped on the parkway to let the child cross before she was struck by a BMW motorcycle driven by Michael T. White, 54, of Peachtree City.

White was traveling in one of the two southbound lanes on the parkway and it was likely that the van blocked his view of the pedestrian, said Maj. Mike DuPree of the Peachtree City Police Department.

The incident occurred near Waterwood Bend at 4:30 p.m., DuPree said.

The victim was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment. Although she had a scooter when she was struck, police believe she was walking it across the road, DuPree said.
